Tanzanite Information

Tanzanite is a rare variety of zoisite found in Tanzania. It was first discovered in 1967 in the Merelani Hills near Mount Kilimanjaro.

There are three different colors dark blue, brown-yellow,and red-purple. These colors may all be seen in the same stone depending on the lighting conditions and the angle you view it from. Its blue color may be deepened by applying heat. Tanzanite is sold by color AAA, AA, A, B and C. AAA is the very dark in color and C is the lightest color gemstone and least valuable of the stones.

Tanzanite has a hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
